It was founded on September 16, 1999, in the United Kingdom, with a focus on Bengali audiences in the United Kingdom and throughout Europe. It began broadcasting in Bangladesh on May 19, 2017.

Bangla TV, founded by Feroze Khan on September 16, 1999, was the first Bengali language television channel to air in the United Kingdom. It was a subscription-only channel until 2005, when it was replaced by Channel S, a free-to-air channel that specialized in programming for the Bengali Sylheti community in the United Kingdom. Following the launch of Channel S, Bangla TV transitioned to a non-subscription-based model and has since provided the service for free.
