Avatar is a 2009 American epic science fiction film directed, written,
produced, and co-edited by James Cameron and starring Sam Worthington, Zoe
Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, and Sigourney Weaver. In the
mid-twentieth century, mankind colonize Pandora, a lush livable moon of a gas
giant in the Alpha Centauri star system, to extract the precious mineral
unobtanium. The mining colony's growth puts a local tribe of Na'vi - a
humanoid race native to Pandora – in jeopardy of extinction. The title of the
film refers to a genetically altered Na'vi body that is used to engage with
the people of Pandora and is controlled by the brain of a distant human.
